La Sainte Famille repose ici lors de son voyage en Égypte. La Vierge nourrit le bébé tandis que Joseph tient le petit bol d'où elle sert la nourriture. C'est la deuxième gravure de Rembrandt, et il lutte avec le volume et la profondeur.
Alors qu'il sépare la lumière de l'obscurité (avec un enchevêtrement de lignes), une fois dans l'ombre, les figures sont difficiles à distinguer de l'arrière-plan.
