Gli uomini che stanno togliendo Cristo dalla croce dopo la sua morte usano un lenzuolo di lino per abbassare con cura il suo corpo. Sono illuminati da una figura sotto la scala che tiene una torcia, l'unica fonte di luce nella scena. Tutto ciò che si trova direttamente attorno alla fiamma è vividamente illuminato, mentre i dettagli un po' più lontani svaniscono rapidamente nell'oscurità della notte.
