Painting — História e Análise
Perhaps it is the well-known canal of Canal Grande, Venice, that the artist Wilhelm von Gegerfelt has depicted in a mild and hazy light. It rests a calm over the picture as for the thoughts of the saint’s mood. The mill, like here, to paint prospects and views of cities is called Vedutamåleri and developed in Venice during the Renaissance, but mostly flourished in the 17th century. Wilhelm von Gegerfel’s image is linked to this tradition, especially as his view depicts just Venice. Gothenburg son Wilhelm von Gegerfelt’s art evolved from a dark and anecdotal Düsseldorf painting to a blonde impressionism through influences from France. In the soft-toned portrayals from Venice during the 1880s, the artist caught on the soft walker play in the hazy air and on the overall moods of the colours and lights.
