Aqui, a destituída Preciosa e Majombe, a mulher cigana que a criou, estão tendo uma conversa privada. Por feliz coincidência, Preciosa acaba casando-se com um nobre e revela ser de alta linhagem. Na época de Rembrandt, esta velha história foi encenada sob o título Het Spaensch heydinnetje (A Cigana Espanhola).
A gravura provavelmente foi destinada à capa da peça, mas nunca foi utilizada.
