Sin embargo, a diferencia de los pintores románticos, Weissenbruch no alteró la realidad para adaptarse a su imaginación, sino que ofreció una representación topográficamente precisa. El canal Trekvliet unía La Haya con las aldeas vecinas de Rijswijk y Voorburg.
