Stadtholder Prince Maurice Lying in State — Histoire et analyse
Le prince Maurice est mort le 23 avril 1625 à l'âge de 57 ans. Des rumeurs circulaient selon lesquelles il avait été empoisonné. Cependant, une autopsie a prouvé que sa mort était due à un abcès du foie.
Peu après, il a été embaumé et exposé, vêtu d'un tabard doublé de fourrure, comme le montre ce petit portrait. L'inhumation a eu lieu à Delft le 20 septembre.
