Stadtholder Prince Maurice Lying in State — Storia e analisi
Il principe Maurizio morì il 23 aprile 1625 all'età di 57 anni. Si diceva che fosse stato avvelenato. Tuttavia, un'autopsia dimostrò che la sua morte era dovuta a un ascesso al fegato.
Poco dopo, fu imbalsamato e messo in stato, vestito con un tabardo foderato di pelliccia, come si vede in questo piccolo ritratto. La sepoltura ebbe luogo a Delft il 20 settembre.
