View of The Hague — Storia e analisi
Nel XIX secolo Rembrandt divenne l'eroe nazionale dei Paesi Bassi. Ad Amsterdam fu eretta una statua in suo onore. Per la sua cerimonia di inaugurazione, il Parkzaal (una sala da concerto) fu decorato con enormi dipinti delle città in cui si pensava avesse lavorato.
Questo è il bozzetto per la tela Rembrandt all'Aia. In lontananza si vede la silhouette della città con il campanile della Grote o Sint-Jacobskerk. Solo più tardi emerse che Rembrandt non aveva mai effettivamente lavorato all'Aia.
