À sua morte em 1897, Rudolph Guicherit já não era fotógrafo, mas superintendente no Rijksmuseum. Se tivesse vivido um pouco mais, poderia também ter feito as suas rondas nesta galeria. No entanto, o Pavilhão Philips foi construído apenas em 1909.
Em 1866, Guicherit tirou quatro fotografias do Canal do Mar do Norte, que servia como uma ligação mais curta e melhor entre o porto de Amesterdão e o Mar do Norte.
