A cena de inverno é uma especialidade holandesa adotada por Avercamp e van der Venne no início do século e continuada por Esaias van de Velde, van Goyen e Salomon Ruysdael em Haarlem durante a década de 1610. Van Goyen então abandona o tema, retornando a ele na década de 1640.
