Este é um retrato do Rei Guilherme II em uniforme militar, mas com um ar decididamente informal. Em 1848 – quando revoluções estavam em curso por toda a Europa – Guilherme II renunciou à autocracia real e os Países Baixos tornaram-se uma democracia parlamentar.
