The Stoning of StephenHistória e Análise

Stephen, appointed as a deacon (spiritual servant) by the Apostles, was a preacher and miracle worker, often regarded as the first Christian martyr. He was stoned to death for accusing the high priests of murdering the Messiah. Despite the etching’s small size, Rembrandt vividly conveyed the brutality of the scene.

Multiple assailants hurl stones at Stephen, who is on the verge of succumbing to the violence.
