Rembrandt grabó al más grande de estos tres mendigos en exactamente el mismo estilo que las figuras en los dibujos adyacentes. Indicó todas las sombras con líneas paralelas verticales. Este sombreado añade vigor a la representación, pero también es algo tosco.
En las otras dos grabados, logró un resultado más refinado utilizando el mismo estilo en un formato mucho más pequeño.
