Rembrandt gravou o maior destes três mendigos exatamente no mesmo estilo que as figuras nos desenhos adjacentes. Ele indicou todas as sombras com linhas verticais paralelas. Este hachurado adiciona vigor à representação, mas é também um tanto grosseiro.
Nas outras duas gravuras, ele alcançou um resultado mais refinado usando o mesmo estilo em um formato muito menor.
