El comerciante de Ámsterdam Abraham Anthonisz Recht era un remonstrante convencido y un gran admirador de Wtenbogaert. Encargó este retrato a Rembrandt en 1633 y lo colgó en su hogar. Wtenbogaert te mira con una mirada penetrante, claramente es un hombre de autoridad moral.
