Cristo está siendo colocado en una tumba mientras los espectadores en duelo observan. Las áreas de sombra en la escena consisten en poderosas líneas paralelas. La fuente de luz está oculta detrás del hombre que nos da la espalda.
Apenas se puede discernir algún trazo en ese lugar tan iluminado. El papel japonés de un amarillo profundo otorga a la escena un brillo cálido, que armoniza bien con la luz de una lámpara o antorcha.
