Questo ritratto di Alida Assink la presenta nel suo abbigliamento più elegante, raffigurata dalla testa ai piedi. Questo è piuttosto eccezionale, poiché il pittore Kruseman riservava tipicamente un ritratto a figura intera esclusivamente per la regalità. Assink aveva 23 anni quando questo ritratto fu commissionato dal suo tutore, un ricco proprietario terriero.
L'ambientazione rurale con il cane da caccia e il vaso da giardino richiama lo stile del ritratto inglese, che Kruseman ammirava.
