Portrait of William III, Prince of Orange and Stadholder — Storia e analisi
Al momento in cui questo ritratto fu realizzato, Guglielmo III era stadholder della Repubblica Olandese e comandante dell'esercito. Questo è il modo in cui un sovrano si immortalava, ovvero tenendo un bastone da comandante per sottolineare il suo reale potere. L'elmo piumato e la fascia arancione significano anche il suo status.
Tuttavia, il principe non aveva ancora raggiunto l'apice del suo potere: nel 1689 sarebbe diventato anche re d'Inghilterra.
