Trent'anni dopo la sua prima versione di questo soggetto, Rembrandt lo incise nuovamente e lo concepì in un modo completamente diverso. Gli apostoli, in primo piano a sinistra, ora svolgono un ruolo di semplice supporto. L'attenzione è riservata al Tempio di Gerusalemme sullo sfondo, con colonne salomoniche davanti e innumerevoli figure riunite attorno al luogo sacrificale.
