Trinta anos após sua primeira versão deste tema, Rembrandt o gravou novamente e o concebeu de uma maneira completamente diferente. Os apóstolos, em primeiro plano à esquerda, agora desempenham um papel meramente secundário. O foco é reservado para o Templo de Jerusalém ao fundo, com colunas salomônicas à sua frente e inúmeras figuras reunidas em torno do local sacrificial.
