Memorial Portrait of Moses ter Borch — 歴史と豆知識

モーセは1667年、イングランドのフェリックスストウ近くのランガード砦の襲撃中に亡くなりました。その後すぐに、ジェラールとゲジーナは彼らの最年少の兄弟を記念してこの絵を描きました。ジェラールはモーセの肖像を描き、ゲジーナは背景と物体を描きました。これらはモーセの英雄的な死と生命の儚さを暗示しており、時間（懐中時計）、死（頭蓋骨）、永遠（岩の上のツタ）、忠誠（犬）などが含まれています。
