Aquellos que se fueron al mar jugaron a la ruleta con sus vidas. Los barcos de madera eran pequeños y frágiles, y los peligros muy reales se exageraban con historias de horror sobre criaturas horribles que vivían en las profundidades insondables. Willaerts creó una imagen de la peor pesadilla de cada marinero.
Un barco se ha estrellado contra las rocas, y los otros dos están inclinándose. Los sobrevivientes en el centro están amenazados por un pez monstruoso.
