Coloro che andarono per mare giocarono alla roulette con le loro vite. Le navi di legno erano piccole e fragili, e i pericoli molto reali venivano esagerati con storie dell'orrore su creature orribili che vivevano nelle profondità insondabili. Willaerts creò un'immagine del peggior incubo di ogni marinaio.
Una nave è stata schiantata sugli scogli, e le altre due stanno inclinando. I sopravvissuti al centro sono minacciati da un pesce mostruoso.
