Two Views of Dutch East India Company Trading Posts: Lawec in Cambodia and Banda in the Southern Moluccas — Historia y Análisis
Desde 1609, la Compañía de las Indias Orientales navegaba hacia Lawec, cerca de Phnom Penh. Allí, la compañía compraba provisiones, como arroz, mantequilla, cerdo y manteca, para Batavia. Banda suministraba macis y nuez moscada.
En 1621, el gobernador general Coen castigó a la isla por comerciar con otros países: los quince mil isleños fueron asesinados o expulsados. El 'carnicero de Banda' fundó parcelas de nuez moscada, fuertemente custodiadas por fortalezas.
