Two Views of Dutch East India Company Trading Posts: Lawec in Cambodia and Banda in the Southern Moluccas — Histoire et analyse
À partir de 1609, la Compagnie des Indes orientales naviguait vers Lawec, près de Phnom Penh. Là, la compagnie achetait des provisions, telles que du riz, du beurre, du porc et du saindoux, pour Batavia. Banda fournissait de la muscade et de la macis.
En 1621, le gouverneur général Coen a puni l'île pour avoir commercé avec d'autres pays : les quinze mille insulaires ont été tués ou chassés. Le 'boucher de Banda' a fondé des parcelles de muscade, lourdement gardées par des forts.
