Bentheim Castle — Storia e analisi
Il Castello di Bentheim esiste ancora. Si trova nella regione di confine tra Germania e Paesi Bassi, ma le alte montagne Ruisdael rappresentate in questo dipinto non si trovano lì. Fantasia e realtà si intrecciano in questa scena.
Il pittore realizzò una dozzina di dipinti di questo castello, ognuno con un diverso paesaggio montano. Nel 1861, Goethe, il famoso scrittore tedesco, definì giustamente Ruisdael un poeta.
