O menino Cristo senta-se no colo de sua mãe, a Virgem Maria, enquanto os três reis lhe apresentam presentes. É impressionante que as figuras sejam mostradas amontoadas e em poses bastante rígidas e estáticas. O estilo de Ter Brugghen era antiquado pelos padrões de sua época: a paleta brilhante remete ao Maneirismo.
O realismo, especialmente no rosto da Criança, traz à mente o trabalho do pintor italiano Caravaggio.
