Una luz brillante y clara llena esta iglesia, en la que, como sucede, se está predicando un sermón desde el púlpito. Saenredam creó una sensación de espacio con su uso consistente de la perspectiva, en la que todas las líneas ortogonales convergen en el mismo punto. Esta iglesia era especial para el pintor: no solo nació en Assendelft, sino que la lápida de su padre, Jan Saenredam, con una inscripción, se puede ver en el primer plano derecho.
