Portrait of Roelof Meulenaer — Storia e analisi

Roelof Meulenaer, un postino di Amsterdam, commissionò ritratti di sé stesso e di sua moglie all'allievo di Rembrandt, Ferdinand Bol, intorno al 1650. In questo periodo, Bol stava sviluppando il proprio stile più elegante, basato sul lavoro dell'artista fiammingo Anthony van Dyck, continuando però a servirsi della calda tavolozza di Rembrandt. Il ritratto di Meulenaer, quindi, unisce il meglio di questi due modelli esemplari.
