Questo ritratto potrebbe raffigurare Elisabeth Bas. Come molte mogli di marinai, Bas gestiva il rifornimento della flotta di suo marito, l'ammiraglio Jochem Swartenhondt. Insieme a lui, gestiva anche una rinomata locanda, che continuò a gestire da sola dopo la sua morte.
