Questa è una scena dall'Odissea, l'epica storia del pericoloso viaggio di ritorno compiuto da Ulisse e dai suoi compagni dopo la caduta di Troia. Gli uomini arrivarono sull'isola dove viveva la maga Circe. Lei diede loro una pozione magica che li trasformò in maiali (un maiale esce a sinistra).
Avvertito in tempo, Ulisse riuscì a spezzare l'incantesimo.
