В первой версии Пейзажа с водопадом Сегерс добавил тени с помощью штриховки (Купферстихкабинет, Берлин 963-13, RP-P-H-OB-825, RP-P-OB-826). Здесь, во второй версии, темные участки являются результатом прямой гравировки: части пластины были подвергнуты действию травящего кислоты, в то время как светлые участки были покрыты маскирующим лаком.
