Portrait of Marten Soolmans — Storia e analisi
Marten e Oopjen sono l'unica coppia che Rembrandt ha dipinto a grandezza naturale, in piedi e a figura intera. Il padre di Marten arrivò ad Amsterdam da Anversa come rifugiato protestante. Fece fortuna come proprietario di una raffineria di zucchero.
Marten sposò Oopjen nel 1633. Aveva 20 anni ed era uno studente di giurisprudenza, pronto per una carriera in politica. Purtroppo, morì solo otto anni dopo.
