While her husband, Jan Pranger, is portrayed in the adjacent painting in his study overlooking the Elmina slave fort, Muilman finds herself in a more domestic setting, probably in their home on Amsterdam’s Singel Canal. The picture cabinet in the background features a portrait, possibly of one of Muilman’s ancestors.
