Govardhan

Govardhan (active about 1595–1640) was a painter at the Mughal court. The son of Bhavani Das, a painter in the imperial workshop, he entered imperial service under Akbar and worked into the reign of Shah Jahan; his surviving works show a love of rich, sensuous colour and softly modelled forms. He was one of the illustrators of the Baburnama now in the British Museum, and his portraits in the Jahangir albums are in museums in America and Europe.
