Ravi Shankar was an Indian sitar virtuoso and composer, widely regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He played a crucial role in introducing Indian classical music to the Western world and collaborated with numerous international artists. Shankar was born on April 7, 1920, in Varanasi, India. He began his musical training at a young age under the tutelage of his guru, Allauddin Khan, and later toured Europe and the United States with his family’s dance troupe. Shankar's career spanned over six decades, during which he composed numerous works for sitar and orchestra, including pieces for film and ballet. His style blended traditional Indian classical music with elements of Western music, making it accessible to a global audience. Shankar's significance lies not only in his musical contributions but also in his role as a cultural ambassador, bridging the gap between Eastern and Western musical traditions. He passed away on December 11, 2012, in San Diego, California.
