José María Eguren was a Peruvian poet and painter, recognized as one of the most significant figures in Peruvian literature and art in the early 20th century. He was born on July 7, 1874, in Lima, Peru, and died on May 19, 1942, in the same city. Eguren studied at the National University of San Marcos and later pursued art at the School of Fine Arts in Lima, where he developed a unique style that blended symbolism with modernist influences. His literary career began in the early 1900s, and he became known for his lyrical poetry that often explored themes of nature, love, and existentialism. Major works include 'La canción del alma' and 'Los poemas místicos.' Eguren's significance lies in his ability to capture the essence of the Peruvian landscape and culture through both his visual art and poetry, making him a key figure in the modernist movement in Latin America.
