Cap — History & Facts

Natural coloured sheer silk fabrics were in vogue in the early 19th century. A good example is this cap made of tulle and unbleached blonde bobbin lace. Most tulle, from very fine to very coarse, was machinemade in England, whereas the most exquisite bobbin laces came from Brussels and ‘Mechlin’ (Mechelen).

These two fabrics were often combined, primarily in caps.
