Cabinet — History & Analysis

This may be the earliest-known masterpiece by Boulle, the most celebrated cabinetmaker of his time. Boulle perfected the technique of floral marquetry in various woods.

The gilt-bronze armorial trophy above the middle door originally contained a portrait of Louis XIV.

It was replaced with a likeness of King George I of England (1660–1727).
