Cape with small dots and rosettes — History & Facts
As larger puffed sleeves came into fashion in the early 1890s, the sleeveless cape replaced the tighter dolman coat. This black velvet cape is embroidered with small white dots and rosettes. The shoulder is tamboured with a tapered design.
This decoration with its resemblance to snowflakes and icicles has a wintry feel. The cape is lined with red silk damask.
