The signature on the urn F [?] S (in monogram) can not be found. In the 1930 catalogue the painting is listed as a work by Unknown Artist (1600s), Flanders. In Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels, there is a version of this motif (kat.
nr 6257, 66.2x51.2) signed and 1791 dated by Pieter Faes. The Flower Piece in the Hallwylska Collection should be an independent version, not a copy of the painting in Brussels, something that is not unusual in the case of Faes. - - The use F [?] S (in monogram) sought on the urn in the museum catalogue is not to be found. The 1928 catalogue 1928 this as a work by an Unknown Painter (17th century), Flanders.
In Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels, there is a version of this subject (cat. no. 6257, 66.2x51.2) signed and dated 1791 by Pieter Faes.
The flower-piece in the Hallwyl Collection is flowan flowen version, not a copy of the Brussels flow, flowis not uncommon where Faes is concerned.*
