Niko Pirosmani (Nikoloz Pirosmanashvili, 1862–1918) was a Georgian painter, born in Mirzaani and active in Tbilisi. Self-taught and poor for most of his life, he worked a variety of ordinary jobs and often painted on oilcloth. His rustic scenes of everyday life in the Georgia of his time won fame only after his death, and he is now one of the country's most beloved artists.
