Italian, 1395–1455
Pisanello (Antonio di Puccio Pisano, c. 1395–c. 1455) was an Italian painter, draughtsman and medallist. He worked for the courts of Verona, Ferrara, Mantua, Milan, Rimini and Naples, for the Doge of Venice and for the pope, and is credited with originating the commemorative portrait medal. Few of his paintings survive; among them are The Vision of Saint Eustace and the Portrait of a Princess of the House of Este.
