Boy’s Coat — History & Facts

This coat was probably worn by Willem Hendrik Heemstra, who was born in 1779. In this period it was not unusual for boys and men to wear pink, a colour then not yet associated with girls. Men’s fashion dictated that the front was cut curving far back.

As a result, the coat could only be fastened across the chest with a hook and eye.
