A group of figures bends and pulls at nets or ropes along the sandy beach, their bodies hunched in effort as they work close to the water’s edge.

Near the bottom left, a lone figure stands apart from the main group, facing toward the water with arms extended, his stance suggesting movement or exertion. At the lower right, another figure crouches low to the sand, appearing absorbed in his task, while scattered bundles or fishing gear lie beside him. A dark-hulled boat with two tall masts sits just offshore, its rigging silhouetted against the lighter tones of the town beyond.

Further out, small white sails dot the horizon, and faint silhouettes of cranes or windmills rise above the jumble of buildings in the background. Sunlight falls most brightly on the cliffs and the tops of the buildings, while the foreground figures and wreck are cast in deeper shadow. The sky is filled with broad, sweeping clouds rendered in soft blue and warm ochre, with quick, fluid brushstrokes that give the scene a sense of movement and changing weather.

The paint handling in the lower corners is rough and sketchy, with swirling, overlapping strokes of brown and blue to evoke wet sand and foaming surf. In the distance, the town’s architecture is suggested with delicate, pale lines and subtle washes, blurring into the hazy atmosphere above the sea.
