Saint George Slaying the Dragon — History & Facts
The central moment in the legend of Saint George is when he slays the dragon with a lance. The princess, rescued through the knight’s intervention, can be seen in the background. The first civic guards in the Netherlands often chose this saint as their patron.
He embodied their mission as defender of the faith more than anybody else.
