The Virgin and Child with an Angel Making Music — History & Facts
Vermeyen had a highly individual sense of imagination. His angel is no elevated, genderless celestial being, but a woman of flesh and blood, who has donned her finest gown. She is fitted out with sizeable swan wings.
The infant Jesus is a brawny, lively, little fellow showing no intention of falling asleep to the song that the angel is strumming for him.
