Triptych — History & Facts
Depicted at the centre of this triptych is The Crucifixion. On the wings Saint Peter and Saint James stand behind the couple who commissioned this private altar. The donors, dressed in black, kneel in adoration before the crucified Christ.
Thus included, they appear to participate in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross at Golgotha outside Jerusalem where criminals were executed.
