Dutch, 1606–1669
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–1669), known as Rembrandt, was a Dutch painter, printmaker, and draughtsman of the Dutch Golden Age. He produced around three hundred paintings, a similar number of etchings, and many drawings. His work included a wide variety of subjects such as portraits, self-portraits, landscapes, genre scenes, religious and mythological themes, and animal studies. Rembrandt taught many Dutch painters, and his self-portraits, biblical illustrations, and depictions of his contemporaries are considered his major achievements.
