Gerard David was a Flemish painter active during the Northern Renaissance. He is known for his detailed and richly colored altarpieces and is considered one of the most important painters of the early 16th century in the Low Countries. David was born around 1460 in Oudewater, Netherlands, and he trained in the workshop of the painter Hans Memling in Bruges. He became a master in the Guild of Saint Luke in Bruges in 1484. David's works often depict religious themes, characterized by a meticulous attention to detail and a strong sense of realism. His notable works include 'The Virgin and Child with Saints' and 'The Last Judgment'.
